Attendance
The Importance of Good Attendance
All schools are required to monitor children’s attendance, and regular and punctual school attendance is of paramount importance in ensuing that all children have full access to the curriculum.
Children attending nursery should be at school, on time, every day they are due to attend, unless the reason for the absence is unavoidable. Where absence is unavoidable, parents/carers are encouraged to talk to a member of staff. If your child is reluctant to attend, for whatever reason, our staff will work with you to support the transition from home to school.
Every half-day absence has to be classified by the school as either AUTHORISED or UNAUTHORISED. This is why information about the cause of each absence is ALWAYS required.
Authorised absences are mornings or afternoons away from school for a reason such as genuine illness of the child or unavoidable cause.
Unauthorised absences are those which the school does not consider reasonable and for which no “leave” has been given. Parents are expected to contact school at an early stage and to work with the staff in resolving any problems together.
Illness and Absence Reporting
If your child is ill or going to be absent for any other reason, please inform the school on the same day, so that the absence may be recorded.
Children suffering from infections should be kept at home to prevent wider infection spreading within the school. Children suffering from sickness and diarrhoea should be kept at home for at least 48 hours. Any unexplained absence will be followed up with a phone call or text from the nursery to establish the reason for absence.
Absence Request for Family Holiday, School Visits etc.
Should you need to take your child out of nursery during term-time for any other reason apart from illness, please let the office know in advance.
